A block quotation is a lengthy quote used in your paper which would require special formatting. These long quotations are typically defined as quotes of forty words or more in APA, or four lines or more in MLA.
Depending on which citation style you're using, read through either the APA rules or the MLA rules found in the Quoting vs Paraphrasing tabs of our citation guides to find out what qualifies as a block quote and how to approach one in your paper.
