Please note which citation style you're using so you follow the correct instructions.

In an MLA Works Cited page

Include the first citation (alphabetical by title) in your Works Cited page as you normally would. For your second citation by the same author, include three hyphens (i.e. ---) in place of the author's name.

For example:

Smith, Bob. "Cats and Dogs." ...

---. "Horses and Rabbits." ...

To help differentiate between these works in your in-text citation, you would include a shortened version of the title. e.g.

(Smith, "Horses" 17)

In an APA References page

You will always cite each author's name; there's no shortcut for duplication. References should be arranged by year (earliest first), then by title. And because APA uses publication year in the in-text citation, works by the same author published within the same year will gain a suffix after the date (a, b, c...) in order to differentiate between them.

For example:

Smith, B. (2009). Cats and dogs. ...

Smith, B. (2011a). Horses and rabbits. ...

Smith, B. (2011b). Sheep and farms. ...

If your source has the same author but no date, you can differentiate each source by adding the suffix after n.d. such as (n.d.-a), (n.d.-b), etc.
