Using APA 7th edition:

  • To format an in text citation for a paraphrase use:

(Title, year)

e.g.
An article: ("Get on Board," 2012)
A book: (Introduction to Food Science, 2018)

  • To format an in text citation for direct quote, use:

(Title, year, p. number)

e.g.
An article: ("Get on Board," 2012, p. A14)
A book: (Introduction to Food Science, 2018, p. 25)

If the title of the work is italicized in the final reference you will also italicize it in your in-text citation. If the title is not italicized in the final reference then you'll put the title in quotes. Titles in an in-text citation should be written in title case.
