In general, it's always best to link to the original website instead of downloading and uploading the content elsewhere. However, under the updated Copyright Act you are allowed to reproduce or distribute publicly-accessible material on the Internet as long as:

  • There is no clearly visible notice prohibiting it 
  • The work is properly cited
  • The work is a legitimate copy uploaded with the copyright owner's knowledge
  • And there is no access lock on the material

Anything behind a login (e.g. association membership website, textbook website, etc.) generally can't be shared. Similarly, sharing your login information is also not permitted.
