Limits (sometimes called limiters or facets) allow you to refine your results by type of materials, date, location, etc. These are one of the most useful tools you have when searching the library website, and can be found on the left-side of your results page or in a pull-up menu found at the bottom of your results page if you're working on a small screen.
Some frequently used limits include:
Availability - do you want it to be available in the library or online?
Material type - are you looking for articles, books, reviews, audio visual, etc.
Publication date - do you need to see material published in a specific date range?
Library location - do you only want to see what's available at your campus?
Sorting allows you to rearrange the order of your results by using the Sort by drop down menu (see the image above, just under Refine Your Results). You can sort by relevance, date-newest (newest content first), date-oldest (oldest content first), author, or title.
Typically you'll want to leave your results sorted by relevance as those results will relate more to your search terms. Sorting by date may give you more recent content, but you may lose relevant results.
