You can request or place a hold on books from any of our libraries as long as the book is in the General Collection.

To do that:

  1. Find the book you want in our library search and click the title to open the record.
Library search results showing a book title highlighted and text that says click the title

  2. Log into your library account with your Seneca email and password through the Sign in link on the yellow bar. If you've logged in previously this session you can skip this step.

  3. Click Request under the Get it heading. Request only appears when you're logged in.
Request options under the get it heading

  4. Fill out the necessary information. You can leave the 'needed by' date field blank as you'll be given the maximum time to hold the item (7 days) automatically. Make sure you select the campus where you want to pick up the book.

  5. Click submit.

How long does it take, and how will I know when to pick it up?

How long it takes to receive a requested item depends on its location and whether there's travel time involved. In general:

If the item is available at...    Then it usually takes*...
Your requested pickup campus    1 business day or less
Another campus library and needs to be shipped       1-3 business days

*If the book is currently available

When your book is ready for pickup an email will be sent to your My.Seneca email address. At Newham, King, and York campuses holds are placed in the Library's pickup lockers and can be picked up as long as the library space is open.

You have 7 days to claim your holds before they are returned to the shelf or signed out to the next person in line.
